Scientific Name: Rheum emodi Wall. ex Meissn.
Uses: Dried rhizomes and roots are useful as a purgative and astringent tonic; its stimulating effect combined with aperient properties renders it especially useful in a tonic dyspepsia. Its use is prohibited for patients suffering from gout, rheumatism, epilepsy, and uric acid troubles. Powdered roots used for cleaning teeth, also sprinkled over ulcers. Leaf stalks have a purgative action.
